How long does omeprazole take to work?

DS1 is almost 6 and has been prescribed omeprazole for his stomach troubles.

One doc said it takes a while to work and then the next said it works quite quickly.

We have an appointment in 6 weeks time, but have to go back before then if it's not making any difference.

It's not making any difference to him at all, but I am wondering what is a reasonable length of time to give it to work.

Anyone?

Hooray, I finally got another appointment.

Boooooo, it's not til 7th Oct, but it's a fortnight sooner than we would have been seen.

DS does seem a tiny bit better, but still not great. Maybe the omeprazole is finally starting to work. He is still on Gaviscon about 5 times a day though, so he is still having probs. I noticed in the shower tonight that his tummy is huge Sad, yet you can see his ribs, so he is def not fat.

Good news about the appointment. Glad that your ds is feeling a little better.

Thanks NessaRose.

I have been having a think about things and am beginning to wonder if this is related to him being tongue tied. Or at least I think he is. Looking back, knowing what I now know about breastfeeding, and having experienced normal feeding with ds2, I think he has a slight tongue tie. Even now, there is a little notch on the end of his tongue, but I am not an expert, so don't know for sure as it is not really obvious like a heart shaped tongue or anything. Looking back, I also wonder if he has had silent reflux since he was born. The two can be connected apparently because the swallowing action with a tongue tie can be different causing a lot more air to be swallowed.

I am fully expecting the doc to dismiss this as nonsense though.Hmm

And maybe I am just grasping at straws Sad
