Chickenpox twice??

This may be a silly question, but have any of your ds/dd's had chicken pox twice? My 10yr old has what we 1st thought were bites on his torso, he started with 4-5 yesterday, and they were itchy, but now has 10 or more all over both sides of his torso, nowhere else, and they have little heads on them. He and his twin had chickenpox when they were 3yrs, although his twin was worse. He has had no temp, but was a bit grumpier than usual a couple of days ago. Could it be chickenpox again?

I have had chickenpox twice - once as a baby, and again in my early twenties. When I had it as an adult it was very mild - I had a fever one night, then felt fine, but had itchy spots for a few days.

Yes, my DS had it mildly at about 4 months then got it again, much worse second time round about a year later.

if they follow the line of a nerve on his torso then it could be shingles rather than chicken pox again. (shingles is the reactivation of the chicken pox virus)

They go in groups across both sides of his torso, but, as yet, nowhere else. He is not getting the nerve pain usually associated with shingles but they are sore and itchy. He also developed a bit of a temp last night, Oh well, will have to get it either confirmed as shingles or chickenpox tomorrow, If shingles, he can still go to the holiday club as long as spots are covered, if chickenpox, I will have to take time off work, which will be a pain as I jobshare and I am supposed to be covering my opposite numbers holiday this week!

Sorry, but it sounds like CP. My DS2 had it twice, just like the others have described-very mildly when one of his brothers had it (and I thought we'd got off lightly!), then he got it with a vengeance a couple of years later!

I recommend an oat bath to cool the itching.

It as actually possible to have it up to 5 times. There are around 52 strains to the virus that fall into 5 sub-groups having one sub-group does not protect againist the viruses in the other sub groups. We found this out when DD gave chicken pox to a 52 year old friend who had had it as a child.

Well, it is confirmed as CP by our GP this morning, luckily the lady 2 doors down has said she will look after both my DS's tomorrow and Thursday, as she wants her 3yr old to catch it before she starts school! Only problem I have now is when will I be able to get out and buy their new school shoes before next Wednesday, never mind, we will manage somehow. Lol.
Thanks for all your replies.
