Broad big toes

My dd was born with broad great toes - she has two sets of bones in both big toes - we were scheduled to have surgery, but seem to have been removed from the waiting list - original plan was to operate at 18mo, got pushed back to 24mo and haven't heard from specialist for 18 months or so - dd now 3 and a half and dont know what to do, what result to expect, whether surgeon we were refered to is the best person, whether to push for surgery now or wait.. DD seems unbothered, we are managing to find shoes to fit.

also her toenails are very thin and feet seem very sensitive and due to the odd shape of her big toenails she gets problems with her cuticles getting torn and this is very sore - don't know what to do about this - edge of the toe is very short..

Anyone got any experience they can share??

Sorry, I don't have any advice to offer but I'd be chasing the Consultant if I were you. I work in a hospital and it is amazing how easily a patient's notes can get lost and hold up their treatment for no reason!

Good luck, I hope you manage to get this resolved soon.

Don't know whether the Steps charity might have advice to help you with it. www.steps-charity.org.uk/
They are for children or adults with lower limb abnormalities, and may have other people in similar positions. My dd2 has an upper limb abnormality and her charity is very supportive and can usually put you in touch with similar people who can give their experiences.

Thank you both
Am going to chase next week - seems such a risk, a GA for cosmetic surgery, but I think that she will be forever limited for shoes if I don;t and she wont thank me later..
Will look up that charity thank you DeWe
