Erythema Multiforme Minor

DS has just recovered from this and I was wondering if anyone who had any experience of it knows if it's likely to reaccur?

Should have asked the doctor at the hospital but tbh it was all a bit of a panic I forgot to.

My DS was diagnosed with this after 3 separate trips to the hospital over the festive period last year as nobody seemed to know what the blotches were.

This was when he was 10 months old and he's now 18 months and touch wood it hasn't recurred so far.

I was basically told that this rash was just the way his body was dealing with the fact that he was fighting off a virus and it was nothing to worry about or serious. He didn't get given any medication for it and I was just to give him Calpol more for his own comfort than as a remedy.

There are two forms of Erythema Multiforme and it's only if it's the Major one is there anything to worry about as that can be life threatening but it's really rare and unlikely to happen to your DS at any time in his life. The doctor did mention to me when my DS was diagnosed with it that it can sometimes happen as an allergic reaction to Ibuprofen so not sure if you have used that recently with your DS but if you have you might want to give it a miss in future and stick with Paracetamol products to be on the safe side.

My 3yr old has got one at the mo. Covered in rashes(his second day). They cant seem to explain why he has it as he wasnt ill but mind you he had an overnight fever 4days before. They say its their body fighting against a viral infection. Defo not an allergy.

DD2 had it when she was about 3 weeks old. It disappeared after about 3 days then came back a week later. It lasted another 3 days. A week or so later she got the spots that she got before the proper rash came out but it didn't develop into the whole rash. And that was it. She's now 6mo and it hasn't come back.

I have been told that it could come back at any time as it just might be the way her body fights off viruses. It's bloody scary though.
