10 week old constipated?

EBF - hasn't pooed since yesterday first thing (6am). A little bit of green a couple of times throughout the day yesterday. He seems unsettled - probably got a tummy ache.

Should I give water (how with no bottles?!), or wait a bit longer?

No need to give water with a bf baby. They are rarely constipated and this isnt constipation anyway.

This isn't constipation? What could it be?

Shouldn't I be worried then? He's definitely not himself...

they are not constipated unless the poo comes out in hard lumps. It can be common for bf babies to go a week or more without pooing without them being constipated. Have you tried cycling his legs and massaging his tummy?

Seona1973 · 27/07/2011 11:30

maybe he is coming down with something if the poo was greenish yesterday

rainbowinthesky · 27/07/2011 11:32

It is very rare for a bf baby to be constipated. Agree with previous poster about massage stomach in a circle if you want to. Most of the milk gets used by the body and so not as much waste. It will happen and then might be a poo up the back job!

Oh OK, thank you. Gosh a week or more - where does it all get 'stored'?!

Have tried - he's frantically sucking his hand at the moment. He usually has a little feed to make him go, which we've tried, a lot, this morning to no avail.

Seona - there were a couple of nappies that had a green smear in them, not much. Could it be illness then do you think?
