my DS has woken from his morning nap with a temp of 39. I have given him some calpol and have stripped him to his nappy. he is really clingy and has very cold hands and feet. is there anything else I can do for him? should I phone the doctor?

Just keep him cool, Calpol should take his temp down. If your worried ring NHS direct (they will ask if there is a rash etc).

keep hydrated too. It's horrible when they have a fever, they feel really groggy and clingly.

Clingy isn't a problem (except when you want to do something else) it's totally normal. More of a worry if they're pushing you away, not recognising you, or over-sleepy (not properly waking). Cold hands and feet are again a normal sign of a temperature.
I wouldn't worry about the doctor unless you think it's something he'll need antibiotics for. If it's still up tomorrow then it might be worth getting him checked.
I think he's old enough for ibroprofin, which I find better at getting temperature down. If you alternate it with calpol it works well.
Lots to drink, let him eat if he wants to, but don't force it.

thanks for all your help. I was worried about the clinginess(sp?) because he is never clingy but to be honest I am enjoying the cuddles! I'll try the ibuprofen for his temp. thanks again!
