3 y/o stinging when peeing

my DS is complaining about a stinging willy, mainly when he pees. It looks OK although it looks like it has a tiny scab on the end, so maybe he has caught it when having a fiddle with it? Could only find one case of tight foreskin when I googled. Anyone experienced similar? Just checking before I call NHS24.

Try and get a urine sample and take him to out of hours. It might be a wee infection, which is rare in boys so I'd expect them to want to see him.
My ds conmplained at one point of this and it was just a little sore on the end. Because it was sore he kept fussing at it and made it worse. It cleared up fairly quickly once he left it alone.

He has had a urine infection before so I don't think it's that as he has no other symptoms. A little bit of sudocreme has helped today. DH had a look at bathtime and said his foreskin appears to be really tight :( Drs on Monday to get it checked!

The scab is probably a foreskin infection rather than a urinary tract infection. The foreskin opening is composed of a lot of wrinkled elastic tissue which expands to allow urine to emerge or for stretching enough when it needs to pass over the glans for retraction. Unfortunately this area traps stale urine and foreign debris like clothes clothes fluff etc.Microbes can stick inside this warm, moist cavity and set up infection. If the foreskin is tight it cannot be easily cleaned and in any case you are not advised to do this at his age. It is quite a common problem which may clear up but unfortunately can return at intervals which is the reason why quite a few boys end up being circumcised. Mine among them.
