DD (5) was diagnosed with this last four days ago and has been suffering with joint pain and the rash since. She has no stomach pains and is eating normally. Tonight she was really upset with a swollen and sore foot. I'm giving her calpol and ibuprofen. She was seen in a&e and they said you just have to sit it out and it usually takes a few weeks to clear up. It is pretty difficult seeing her immobile and in pain. If your kids have had it, what treatment did they get and how did it all pan out?

DS had HSP when he was 3 (he's 6 now). His case was relatively mild but it was still scary. We gave him ibuprofen and calpol for swelling and pain in his ankles and knees and had to check his urine for a while afterwards to make sure it was clear and there was no sign of kidney damage. It took him a little while to get back to normal afterwards but looking back his recovery from HSP overlapped with the symptoms of coeliac disease starting so he probably would've bounced back a lot quicker if he hadn't had that to deal with too!

I'm still very paranoid whenever he complains of having sore legs or if he has any strange looking spots on his knees or elbows but so far it's not come back again.

Hope your DD feels better soon

Thanks alliwant. DD had a really bad evening last night with lots of rash and not being able to walk, but she seems a bit perkier this afternoon so fingers crossed....back to the docs for a urine test tomorrow as well.

I had this when I was a child, about 8 I think. I remember having a fair bit of Calpol and not doing very much for about 4 weeks (went to school, but didn't do sport, swimming etc).
It cleared up completely and hasn't come back since.
I hope your dd feels better very soon.
