Bad breath in 18 month old

Just wanted to see if anyone has any experience of this. My DD is generally snotty all the time (she goes to a nursery, so no escaping that). In the past few weeks she has developed a really smelly breath, poor mite. I attempt to brush her teeth twice a day (she has 9 at the moment) with varying success, as she doesn't like it much. When she does it herself she chews on the brush and sucks the toothpaste off it. Last couple of times I forced the teeth cleaning and don't think I want to do it again, as don'e want to put her off for good.

Could it be the snot? And what can I do about it, please?

It probably is the snot, it always smells disgusting... you'll find that you can eventually diagnose a series of illnesses just by the smell wafting from your child's mouth

Boak indeed! We co-sleep. I don't want her to be the smelly child at the nursery Is there anything I can do to get rid of it?

Is she eating ok? Is she sticking her tongue out loads? Mine gets bad breath when he has tonsillitis but he gen. goes off his chips a bit and feverish too.

My dd has always had bad breath prior to coming down with a virus.

could be tonsillitus-i would get it checked out

The nursery staff pointed out a rash that could be viral yesterday... Off her food, normally eats like a trooper, but she goes off food when teething, too, so didn't think much of it.

All the snot seems to have led to an ear infection, just got it confirmed.

Tonsilitis... I see another trip to the docs coming.

My DS's breath always honks when he's teething. That might be the problem?

A friend of mine's DS had a problem like this. When they took him to the doctor they found that he'd stuck a pea up his nose and it was basically rotting up there, hence the smelly breath. Might be worth trying to have a bit of a clear out up there just in case....
