Head lice again, HELP

My 3yr old has come home from nursery with her 7th case of head lice.

We have nit combed every day since the last time 2 weeks ago. The family have tried several different brands, I have washed bedding and hoovered every time.

We have used Lavender and Tea tree oils, we have done the conditioner and comb through thing. Complete with tantrums, depending on her mood.

Short of grabbing the kids who are not being treated and shaving them bald what have I missed out.

Ideas and advice please.

So hard at that age - at least with dd1 (7) I can tell her to try and keep her head away from other heads!

We use Hedrin Once, pricey but has done the trick each time - I follow up a week later, but have never found anything. I only change pillowcases, nothing else - no problems. (I do pass hairbrushes under boiling water and give a wash)

In terms of not catching them again, if she has short/tied back hair and you are using the daily tea tree spray (Vosene do a good one, or Nitty Gritty), there isn't much more you can do. Headscarf?!?

Once she's clear, try spraying her hair with hairspray. Is it a private nursery? If so, they can ask a parent to take a child home and treat them. Have a little moan at them.

Oh, and buy yourself a Nitty Gritty comb. Best one ever and it'll last you for years.

Hedrin worked but it's the picking up of Adult lice from the untreated children that's the problem.

Her hair is always worn tied back now. Daily Tea Tree oil spray didn't stop the reinfection.

Mine goes to a school that is happy for parents to spend more time on headline than reading, too.

Until she was 6, she had long hair with no fringe & wore it in 2 tight braids every day; that helped. Medium length hair or styles with fringes collect lice more easily IME.

Now that she's in juniors, she can finally have her hair free & shorter as kids seem to be less huggy as they get older. They still come home about once a term though.

We had an outbreak that lasted over 6 months, too, when dd was 10 or 11. Dd can get fairly anxious and during those periods she can't bear to brush the hair at the nape of her neck where it's very thick. About 300 dropped on to the tiles with a malathion lotion. Yuck.

As well as a nitty gritty comb, the thing that finally saw them off, believe it or not, was head & shoulders shampoo. Apart from a short period when she wouldn't be combed, we also had the problem of parents not bothering to treat their children, and so she kept getting reinfected. The lice were much bigger than anything I'd seen before, too.
