I don't know whether to get DS to a Dr or not. I'm inclined to wait til tomorrow. He's got a fever (38 or so) and has developed this rash before with a fever. this time though it's very itchy. I've got one of those funny feelings about it but am sure it can't be anything.
Any thoughts on what it might be?

slapped cheek or scarlet fever ?

WoTmania · 22/05/2011 20:10

I wondered about both of those. The thing is it that he's had this sort of rash before - just pink all over, only really noticeable because his chicken pox scar stand out white in relief. He's just never had the itching before. Do they involve itching. It's worse under his arms round round groin/top of legs

Slapped cheek isn't itchy in my memory. But the dr. said it looks similar to allergies so try piriton. Slapped cheek isn't more under arms or groin either. I assume it's not just a bad heat rash?
Scarlet fever in my children looked rather like lots of close together goosepimples, or rough sandpaper, doesn't sound like it.
Have you had it checked?

WoTmania · 23/05/2011 18:52

Not been checked, They don't want us down at the Drs in case it's infectious and I spoke to a nurse who has done a script for antihistamine for itching.
Def. not just bad heat rash. It's not anything like heat rash. Bit of a mystery really.

If not any better tomorrow I think I might instist on seeing a Dr.

They don't want you at the doctor because it's infectious? Hmm
Go and sit him next to the receptionist who said that.
Of course only well people should see the doctor.
They should have a spare room or somewhere separate you can wait in that case.

He's loads better today thanks everyone.
DeWe - I know Grin, but to be fair they did say 'in case'.
TMMJ - not rough, he always has v. red cheeks, tongue and lips. I don't know why. Rash almost gone now. I'm beginning to think that maybe it's just what his body does when he has a fever.

Right - glad this is anonymous as poor DS probably wouldn't like it being found in 15 years time but new development. His genitals have gone bright red, not swollen or anything but the skin covering penis and testicles is red Confused. V. odd.
He's also got a sore throat and has lost his voice which I'm trying to feel sad about...

I agree sounds like scarlet fever from your description.

A rash that looks like sunburn, especially in.hot pockets of body (eg genitals) and a sore throat are 2 key symptoms.

Also Google 'strawberry tongue' not always present but very characteristic.

WoTmania · 25/05/2011 09:59

update: Went to see the Doctor who said his throat looks fine, his temperature is 36.7 so only just a fever now, not sure about the rash (no longer sunburn-y more blotchy) so keep an eye on it but he doens't think it is Scarlet Fever.
So, we're back to square one.
