Just found heart monitor pads still on DS from Op yesterday! How to get them off?

DS2 had an op (circumcision) yesterday and as he was all groggy etc we left him in same PJs overnight. When we got him dressed this morning I found three of the adhesive heart monitor pads still on him- the problem is he now knows that sticky things hurt when they come off and he won't let us touch them. They are high up on his chest so wouldn't even be underwater if he sat in the bath -any ideas on how to get them off? Otherwise we'll be pinning him down whilst we whip them off.

(and after that we've got to try and get the bandages off his willy Shock)

I would get a sponge with warm soapy water and try to soak them and sponge them off.

Good luck!

Second what Linda says but add be very very patient (speaking with experience!)

I would leave them on. You can buy a special substance from the pharmacy to remove them - they are called 'Remove' wipes, based on ether.. But personally I wouldn't bother. If you can't get them off easily with soap and water, leave them and try again tomorrow night. Not worth upsetting him over.

Thanks - will try and get the Remove from the pharmacy tomorrow. We've got other priorities just now as he has now seen his willy for the first time since the op (I've been distracting him during nappy changes up until now) - so he's understandably distressed. DS2 is now lying on our bed naked, legs apart ,watching fireman sam and crying intermittently.

DH is trying to be helpful but every time he looks at DS2 he sees the operation site and feels sick!

I would soak the willy dressings off in a warm bath when the time comes. As for the stickys they might get stickier the longer you leave them but regardless leave them and DS will eventually get fed up and peel them of himself in a day or so. They dont usually cause soreness as its as special non sticky sticky stuff ifswim. not like plaster.

thanks sneeze - am going to try and do the bath later but he is currently refusing to even get out of bed! is feeling very sorry for himself and won't even let me look at his willy.

I dread to think what he's going to be like when he's older and gets manflu!

I've managed to get a few peeks at it and it is less swollen than yesterday and at least he can rest his knees together now without discomfort. Hopefully he'll get bored of lying in bed soon!

Try baby if if you have some. It works a treat on plasters, but this may be because they are absorbent.

We got our DS's off in the bath... but I'm guessing your lad won't be up to a bath yet.
I'd leave them if they're clean and not bothering him tbh.
