2 weeks today and he is constipated, 90% of his nappies contain a little poo like rabbit droppings.

He is 100% formula feed, I've been giving him an 0z or two of cooled bolied water between feeds to try soften the poo although this does not seem to be working.

he spends most of his time straining to go and is very uncomfortable.

any ideas?

Thank you

Hi

My DS was like this - he was on SMA Gold. What's your LO on? Apparently SMA is notorious for constipation.

The health visitor suggested cooled boiled water, though it didn't really have an impact on him. I found he only improved once I'd moved him onto hungry baby milk at around 10 weeks.

I now think that he just had problems with the type of milk protein in the SMA Gold.

Sorry I can't really offer any suggestions - other than to try a different formula?

ummm.....Yes he is on SMA Gold....! I think your right possible change of formula.

I'll try a few more days adding the cooled boiled water and see what happens.

Thank you : )

My ds was often constipated on SMA. My 2 dd's have both been ok on Aptamil Check with your hv first but have you tried diluted prune juice?

DS was Sma Gold then SMA White. When he was very little on Gold he had constipation.Horrible to hear him cry. My neighbour who had 2 older DCs suggested the old sugar in water as a one off , which I tried and after he did a dump bigger than his foot I kid you not.
Once he got that out, supplement his milk with boiled water drinks.

I second the prune juice. Fantastic stuff.
