My 5mo dd has a cleft bum - ie where most people have one crease at the top of their bum where it goes to meet their back she has two. The doctor saw this at the 6 week check and said it's nothing to worry about but I keep seeing it and how different it is to other babies and wanted to check and see if anyone else's baby has this. She can't roll yet and isn't keen on putting weight on her legs but seems as physical as other babies in all other respects including using her feet to push against things.

If you mean two bits that go in, the proper one then one further up I think it's pretty common. I noticed quite a few when i used to change nappies at work.

If you mean side by side then I'm not sure.

Hi,

Iv just joined the site and noticed your message!

I myself have a cleft bum, it is nothing to worry about and has not affected my life in anyway other than my bum not looking like every one elses.

It has no medical factor at all.

Hope this helped

I think dd1 has this. Not an issue, never thought about it until I saw your post!

My daughter has this! The midwife at a very early check (10 days i think) referred us for a spine scan just to make sure everything had developed properly in that region - which it had.

She had never seenit before so was quite surprised but the woman scanning seemed to think it wasn't that unusual.

I think it's quite cute now I know it is harmless.

Just to add (in light of magicfox's post) my daughter's is the side by side type rather than one above the other - if that helps.

I'm nosy intrigued, could someone explain this better? Do you mean instead of one bum line you would have two?
my Dd had a funny little fold at the top of her bum at birth but she's 6 now and its become almost unoticable

I've got it a bit too so has ds. It's something to do with the last bit of skin developing over the base of the spine, cosmetic only.

To describe - its like the bum line carries on upwards, above the top of the bum. So the crease goes shallow (where most bums end) then a little bit deeper again for another inch or so.

At least I think that's what we're talking about!

You can't see dd1's so much now, only when she bends right over and sticks her bum in your face, eg mucking around after the bath. Charming.

Heh, I have this!
Only issue later in life is that the top cleft is slightly more prone to ingrowing hairs/infection/etc so needs keeping an eye on, and kept clean.

Other than that, it's fine.
