Ds is 9 and has sufferred countless ear infections. He has otitis media wit offusion and had grommets when younger. The infections have slowed down lots, and he gets no severe symptoms, he can manage with calpol, however, sometimes there is a discharge, as happened today at school.

His teacher told him he should stay home in future as the gunky discharge is contagious to other kids.....

We have a follow up GP app tomorrow so I will check but am I right in thinking she is talking rubbish or is she right?

Thanks.

We had a child who had really bad ear infections who was excluded from nursery when it oozed from his ear. He is sightly different case as his parents didn't want him to have antibiotics so he was on herbal medicine for a few weeks until they decided they would use antibiotics after all.

But yes i think it is fine to exclude if there is dishcharge, especially young children as it is so hard to control where it goes.
