Ear infection?

Any advice much appreciated?

DS2 is nearly 6 months but was 2 months premature (not sure if relevant but thought Id mention it). He's not been right all week and has had a bit of a cold, runny nose, cough etc most probably kindly donated from DS1 who has also had a bit of a cold.

He's normally a happy chilled out little boy but yesterday it was like he had a complete personality change...he literally spent all day from 6am screaming-and I mean really really screaming. I ended up at out of hours doctor last night who checked him over and said his right ear looked red and thought it was an ear infection and gave him AB's. We started them last night and bless him he slept most of the night but has woken up again this morning in what looks like a lot of pain and has once again been crying all day. Have given calpol/nurofen but it doesn't seem to be having much affect.

I know the AB's need to get in his system but he actually seems worse today. He isn't hot but checked his temp and it was fine. He just looks so sad bless him and is just screaming uncontrollably.

DS1 really suffered with ear infections and had to have tonsils/adenoids out at 2.5 as he had really bad glue ear but he didn't suffer this young and he was just really grumpy with it whereas this is hysterical high pitched screaming.

I'm no medical expert but I think I would be tempted to take your son back to the out of hours GP service. You are concerned enough to post on here, and I would rather be tagged as a fussy mum than see my child so unwell. But I am a real worrier! Good luck, and I hope your boy is on the mend soon.

Thank you...yep im a worrier as well so wasn't sure if it me just being over anxious or if it did sound concerning.

I suppose I was wondering if am ear infection could cause that much pain and for such a prolonged period of time...and if it isn't that then what on earth could it be. MIL suggested teeth as he's stuffing hands in mouth all the time but im reluctant to blame everything on that and it seems rather extreme to be teething pain. DS1 is 6 now and it feels like i've forgotten everything lol!

Might call out of hours and see what they say...he's not right at all bless him.

Thank you...just needed someone else to tell me this isn't right i think!
