Swimming and colds

My 20 month old has swimming lessons and every time he gets a cold the following day or 2 days later. Runny nose, cough etc. Feel bad stopping them as he loves it so much. but the sleepless nights r not fun. Is this common, is it chlorine or just weak immune system. What do I do for the best.

I think the most likely culprit is the chlorine irritating the delecate mucous membranes in his nose and throat causing the symptoms you describe. Its hardly likely he would get a cold virus lasting 2 days every week! No idea what to suggest though, unless you can find a less clorinated pool.

Also had the paramedics out as he was wheezing last night. Taken to Doc she reckons could be viral asthma, will let him recover and will try one more time with the swimming. He is usually such a robust little boy, hate this. But definately seems to follow the swimming.

Sometimes asthma is induced by exercise, but clorinated water wont help his chest either Sad it will be awful if he has to drop the swimming, but he might grow out of it.
