nappy rash

hi,

my son is 10 weeks old and today i noticed he had a very sore looking, red, blotchy bum. does this sound like normal nappy rash?

have put some bepanthen on his bottom and tried to keep his nappy off for a while (he weed and pooed twice Grin). is there anything else i can do apart from this and regular nappy changes, to help it?

he also has a sore red bit in between his willy and his thigh, where his skin folds. can i treat this with bepanthen as well or will that irritate it more?

he doesn't seem to be too bothered by it at the moment but want to make sure it gets better/doesn't get any worse.

thanks

First bit sounds like nappy rash to me. Should go in no time with cream. Or there's that yellow one in a tube - also fab.

Second bit - check not thrush, can get in creases. If could be, (doubt it though) try breast milk on cotton wool, or ?see docs for antifungal. Bepanthen ought to be pfine for that too though - it's for broken skin after all

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, seeing the GP tomorrow so will ask about the thrush. Is it best to use cotton wool with boiled (cooled) water for wiping his bum while it's sore, instead of using wipes? We used cotton wool when he was 1st born but resorted to wipes after a few weeks just for convenience.

I recommend cheeky wipes instead of disposable wipes. DD always got a rash with disposable ones. Her rash always got worse with metanium the yellow tube one. We use Boots own zinc and castor oil cream. Its been great....and its much cheaper than other brands that have all kind of ingredients. Zinc and castor oil cream contains zinc, castor oil and nut oil.

Metanium is really good as it is water proof.Careful with wipes as some sting if skin is already sore
