Quite high isn't it? Struggling to get it down with parecetemol and nurofen. She's now sat up with me, stripped off.

Its been between 38 and 39 all day, no outward signs of illness apart from sleeping much of the day.

Probably just a virus but I'm wondering whether to phone OOH at this point?

39.9 after full allowed doses of paracetamol and ibuprofen is rather high, yes.
How old is she? drinking ok? Usually well?

BigBoats · 07/05/2011 21:29

Literally as I pressed post she threw up all over DH!

Sorry she's 3, usually well. 2 hours since last dose of nurfoen.

Perhaps stomach bug then! Argh!

Fevers do tend to be higher in the evening, and it may well be a virus, but that is very high if you have already done all the usual things. Any headache/rash/dislike of lights?

Any pain anywhere or mottling/corned beefy look to limbs?

moaningminniewhingesagain · 07/05/2011 21:32

Aha. It may be a stomach bug then. Or the medicine might have made her vom. When was last paracetamol? Have 10ml of the baby one?

haudyerwheesht · 07/05/2011 21:34

Personally I'd call ooh because the only time ds has been that bad was when had pneumonia as a complication of swine flu. The docs told me then that when a fever isn't responsive to antipyretics and is above 39 it usually signals a bacterial infection.

Hope she is better soon - I hate it when they're ill. :(

haudyerwheesht · 07/05/2011 21:36

Oh and is she unusually big for her age. Ds is very tall and heavy so needs a higher dose based on weight rather than age iyswim but I wouldn't do that without seeing a doc.

BigBoats · 07/05/2011 21:39

The puke was all water.

Last parecetemol was 4 hours ago.

Also, if you do take her to the docs get them to test her urine.

blinks · 07/05/2011 21:41

if it's uncontrolled, you should get her seen tonight.

does she have stomach pain?

BigBoats · 07/05/2011 21:41

She's about average weight and height.

Just took temp again 38.8, bit better. No dislike of bright lights etc, oh she did complain of eyebrow pain earlier!

I would ask the OOH GP to review her. I hardly take mine to Drs, but when DS had similar, I did (he was extremely hot, no other symptoms really - pale trembly and hot rather than flushed)

haudyerwheesht · 07/05/2011 21:47

Good that her temps come down a bit but persoanlly I'd still get her checked.

BigBoats · 07/05/2011 22:13

Went up to 40.0, am beginning to question the reliability of my thermometer!

NHS direct are going to phone back.

moaningminniewhingesagain · 07/05/2011 22:15

Ring GP OOH's direct, it will be quicker. The number will be on the answering machine of your GP, after the NHSDirect number.

pooka · 07/05/2011 22:16

Make sure you're giving the full dose possible of paracetomol/nurofen. You can alternate i.e calpol 10ml, nurofen 3 hrs later, paracetomol 3 hours after that.

Plenty of fluids.
