Just discovered a few lice on DS's head. Our first outbreak..what are the best products to use and do the whole family need to use the lotion/shampoo ? Any speedy help appreciated - I might be able to make it to Sainsburys to buy some stuff !

I use the Hedrin overnight stuff and a nit comb. You'll have to do everyone in the family. And make a note to do it again next Wednesday to catch all the nits that may have hatched from eggs.

I don't use any special products except a Nitcomb (any nitcomb will do ime, although many people swear by the NittyGritty). Any decent conditioner. Wash, apply conditioner and get combing, quite systemically, hold up to the light after each comb through to look for wrigglers. Live lice to be deposited on tissue or similar. Eventually when you can't find any more wrigglers you can look closely for eggs (brown sticky, tiny, concentrated behind ears & just above the nape of the neck) and remove them with your fingernails.

If you can, buzzing your DS's hair quite short will help remove them fater now & prevent future infestations.

You too, will be completely nonplussed about these blighters, one day.

I don't usually check others in the family unless the infestation is BAD in source child, or the others have symptoms. It works for us.

Agree about the repeat combing, my method might take more combing (every other day for a week and every 4 days after that until you're bored). But you can't know the f*ers are gone unless you comb thru and find none, so may as well just comb thru hunting and checking at same time.

Most people would say to check again regularly, weekly or maybe fortnightly.
