Has anyone has a norovirus type thing with no D&v

Ds (6yrs old) has been complaining of stomach pain since Thursday afternoon. At first the pain was just mild and infrequent. DS seemed a bit disturbed on Thursday night but on Friday morning seemed fine.

We were due to fly to Italy on Saturday (yesterday) morning and had booked into a hotel near the airport for Friday night as we had an early flight.

We decided to leave as planned on Friday but on Friday evening DS's stomach pains started getting worse and he started waking up crying and writhing while we were at the hotel. DH and I (after a calll to nhs direct where we were told we would need to wait up to 8 hours for a call back) decided to cancel the trip and to drive back home then (around 11pm at night).

The drive home was around 1.5 hours and ds threw up 3-4 times on the way back. I assumed this was the start of a norovirus thing and was just relieved to be home.

However since then he hasn't had any D&V at all but he is waking every 1-2 hours at night crying in pain saying his tummy hurts. The pain seems to last anything from 2-30 minutes than he falls asleep again. The cycle goes on all night. We have had two nights like this so far.

During the day he is fine though he is still getting what seems like milder and more infrequent pain through the day. I have called nhs direct who said to call the out of hours G|P if it didn't improve overnight last night. I did that in the early hours of this morning when ds had a particularly long crying paeriod.

I was told to wait and see and call back if he got worse and that in the absence of any other symptoms it was probably a virus.

DS is now OK, playing in the garden with dh and helping with garden stuff. I can hardly say he is ill at the moment.

Has anyone a virus where their child just has the stomach cramps/pains and where it is worse at night. If so how long did it last?

It could be any number of gastrobugs or it could have been food poisoning. Certainly when I had food poisoning a few years ago, the stomach cramps were cripplingly bad and worse at night, presumably because I was just lying there with no distractions.

If he's been sick then there was something in his stomach making him ill, viral or bacterial. If he's on the mend then I'd just put it down to one of those things. When dd had norovirus she had vomiting first, then got a bit better and diarrhoea set in a couple of days later. I assume the bug was just moving through her stomach/digestive tract and the symptoms changed accordingly.

Is he hydrated? Eating? Drinking? Any more pain? Trust your instincts. If you're worried see a GP in person. My bf at school had vomiting and stomach pains and was told 'virus'. It was her appendix.

Shame about your holiday.

Thanks SOH. That is reassuring

He is eating and drinking, although it is sort of little and often. During the day he seems fine if a little tired. The last two nights though he definitely hasn't been well. I think I will see how we go tonight. If he is no better than last night but no worse I will go to our GP tomorrow. If he is worse tonight than the last two nights I'll call the out of hours GP and insist they see him.

The holday was really a few days with my 19 year`old niece and 17 year old nephew who were orphaned last summer.. They were really upset we couldn't go as I think they were looking forward to having a few days with some family and they wanted to see ds who they haven't seen since Christmas. Anyway it can't be helped. My nephew is flying over with a friend leter in the week (he was going to fly back with us) so we will see him then (as long as DS is better!)

If your ds only vomited a couple of times and had no diarrheoa then I very much doubt it was norovirus. There are plenty of other gastro bugs going around,it was prob one of those
