chicken pox & eczema

DD has a temperature of 39.5 and a few
pimple like spots so i'm guessing its chicken pox.
She has Atopic Eczema. Will having eczema make
the chicken pox worse?

TIA

Sorry Elmofan, I have no idea but wanted to bump for you....
Top tips I had for helping with chicken pox itching were Piriton syrup, and Aveeno bath treatment, both sound like they'd be ok with eczema, suggest you check out with a pharmacist x

oh no, hope she's over the worst of it now. The blisters scab over and become itchy, hence my suggestions, but my DCs don't have eczema so you'd need to check out before using.

my doctor told me to take DS in if he contracted chicken pox as he might need anti-virals. He has reasonably bad eczema. I would ask to speak to an eczema specialist doctor if your practice has one.

Hope your DD is over the worst now!!

Where I come from, they advise children with eczema to have the CP vaccine - unfortunately, any underlying skin condition (especially eczema) + chicken pox don't mix well and can often lead to complications:-(.

IHeartKingThistle · 13/04/2011 19:04

We used ViraSoothe gel on DS who is prone to eczema, which seemed to work well. Heard that calamine can be drying?

DS' skin had been better for ages, but since the pox it's been worse again. The pox itself was nowhere near as bad as I expected though.

Hope your DD gets over it soon!

Thanks, she is still covered head to toe in spots even has
them on the roof of her mouth Sad but she is in good form
so over the worst.

The itch is keeping her awake at night even though i am
giving her pherengan.
