chipped bone in elbow - recovery?

DD aged 4 had an accident at school yesterday am. School phoned and said she'd fallen off climbing frame/monkey bars at playtime and they were a little worried. Took to medical centre and dr said he didn't think it was broken/fractured. He saw her in the afternoon and said the same thing and said he'd see her this afternoon.

It was obvious she was in a lot of pain and couldn't move her arm and was up all night crying so DH and I took her to hospital this morning where they xrayed her and said bone in elbow chipped. It has been strapped up and we have to go back on Saturday but I'm wondering what the recovery time is likely to be?

She is still in a lot of pain and can't get dressed properly as the slightest movement of her arm is making her scream in agony.

Any one with any advice?

I think she should be feeling better within a week? Although the full recovery/healing time is about 6 weeks? My 2yr old DD broke both bones in her forearm and had to have surgery to insert a metal wire down through her ulna Sad she had an x ray 7 days after which showed both of the bones are healing/knitting, the swelling has gone down and she's not in any pain (although she does have a cast from her shoulder to her wrist so the fact that its immobilised will obviously be helping). DD1 cracked a bone in her thumb a while ago also and she was pain free within a week.

Thanks NoodlesMam. Just a little worried as we are abroad and fly back to the UK next week so really hope she is better by then. I suppose I should be grateful it is not a break and she is not in plaster but she/we are really finding it hard with her right arm in a sling and she is getting very frustrated. Doesn't help that she just won't take her medicine and is complaining that it is really painful Sad

Your poor DD, that must have been awful for her and you. Glad she is healing ok

If it is a radial head fracture, then she should be out of a sling in a few days, and should be using it normally then.

radial head fracture? They didn't say, just said there was a chipped bone on her elbow Confused She is still saying she can't move it and screams every time I try to get her dressed.
