Symptoms sound like roseola but unfortunately it is one of those unfortunate illnesses where you don't know what it is until the rash appears and by then, the fever would have 'broken'. Has he had roseola before?

DD2 was like this for the past few nights and she's been diagnosed with an ear infection today. If you aren't sure whether you need to see a doc can you ring NHS Direct or ring your surgery in the morning and ask them?

Hope he's better soon :)

He has suffered quite bit in past with ear infections but says his ears not hurting.hes never had a temp for this long,is it normal for just a virus?if he has another bad sleepless night ill ring doc tomorrow

Roseola is a one-off - they catch it once and they never get it again as they would have immunity to it. DS1 had it when he was about 18 months old and we were very worried for a few days as he had a high temp that would come down for a little bit with calpol and then shot right back up again. He got the rash on the 5th day and was fine as rain after that. DS2 is 17 months old and I dread him getting it just because it was so worrying initially! If your DS is still ok and justa bit run down, then just dose him up, alternating between paracetamol and nurofen as they work in different ways (or so my nurse friend told me!). Watch out for any other rash (those that don't disappear if you press a glass against it), sensitivity to light etc - things that are unusual... Good luck, I hope he feels better soon.

most feverish illnesses finish by the end of the third day - fever that is. If it continues i would get him checked. Often various rashes do appear after the fever.
