at pre-school he was "dared" by another child.

he swallowed one or two very small metal nails, you know from this game where you nail patterns onto a cork board.

I guess they will just come out in a day or two.
what do I need to look out for incase they cause trouble?

I think you should take him to A&E and get him
checked out then have a chat about safety to his
teacher.

GoodnightNobody · 05/04/2011 19:22

a&e.

I should think. If they've got sharp ends could there be a chance they could perforate insides? Maybe ring NHS direct for advice?

belgo · 05/04/2011 19:23

agree, a&e.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 05/04/2011 19:24

A&E. They probably will just come out the other end, but there's also a chance they could perforate the intestines.

At the very least ring NHS direct - 0845 4647

Ooh yes a and e. When I was there in Jan, an 18 month old had swallowed a tiny piece of lego and they were xraying him. I would def get it checked.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 05/04/2011 23:25

Is he OK?

Valpollicella · 05/04/2011 23:26

A&E

The risk is of a perforated bowel, which is very dangerous

mousymouse · 06/04/2011 08:40

thanks he is fine. nhs direct said to monitor him today and to listen to the clonk in the toilet bowl.
the nails are only small, maybe a centimeter long and are rounded off.
