DS smells like vinegar?

Our 8-month-old DS has been smelling like vinegar for the last few days. Mainly from his ears around the back of his neck and also most notably when he wakes up. Also the top of his sleeping bag. I've been making extra sure I wash and clean his neck and face thoroughly at bath time but this hasn't seem to have helped. I've been looking online and searching mumsnet and seen some suggestions - allergies (not introduced anything new lately though), diabetes (no family history though), teething (possible, since he doesn't have any yet), cold (possible, since he has a slight cold, although did start before cold), ear infection (possible, since ears do smell)..... We are due to go for check-up at GP on Thurs so will ask then, but just wondering if anyone has had any conclusive experience of this?

Oooh, now there was a thread about this a couple of months ago, and dont worry, it was all fine. I can't remember what it is, but it is common. Let me see if I can find the thread. Smile

Thanks! Hmm wondering if could possibly be reflux too... He does throw up rather a lot.

My ds was exactly the same at around the same age, a really strong smell of vinegar when he woke up and in the same areas. I asked my GP about and he looked at me like I was crazy - not helpful for a first time mum. He gradually grew out of it by the time he was about a year and it doesn't seem to have been connected or caused by anything, so I wouldn't worry too much. Probably worth mentioning to your GP, hope you get a more sympathetic response than I did. :)

it could be thrush starting in the folds of skin around the neck area
