Persistent cough - any ideas?

My 2 yo DS gets a persistent croup-like cough everytime he has a cold/snotty nose and he is suffering from it again at the moment. Anyone got any ideas on how we can help him? Sometime it makes him retch and obviously wakes him when sleeping as well. I've tried steam, menthol etc, tipping the bed up but this doesn't seem to help.

Thanks!

My son used to always get coughs too whenever he had a cold but as he has got older he has not suffered so much, youngsters have not yet got a strong immune system.

I think as long as your son is generally ok in himself, drinking plenty and playing
then I don't think there is much you can do as the doctor's don't like to keep dishing out medicine.

Just a thought but if you have any pets, try to keep them out of your sons room as sometimes they can cause allergies
