Ridge on forehead

Hi, my dd is almost 2 and have noticed in a couple of her pics that she has a little ridge, only I have noticed it. I thought it was normal but just googled and am now worried. Her head shape is totally normal and round, just a little ridge...does any one elses child have this or experience of it? Thanks

Is the ridge horizontal or vertical?

CharlieBoo · 01/04/2011 10:50

Its vertical in themiddle of her forehead, very unnoticeable only in couple of pics I've spotted it. Otherwise her head is normal, and total normal development.

There is a (very rare) condition some children have where the bones in their skull are fused, and this is one of the symptoms.

I would take her to a doctor. If it's what I'm thinking of it will need to be treated soon.

It may well be nothing, but I would get it checked.

Thanks got an appointment at 12, dp thinks I've lost the plot. Am doubting myself now, am sure the dr is going to think I'm crazy!

We have felt her head and can't feel a ridge, dp says it's her stalk Mark the way it splits and goes up her forehead... I would be able to feel the ridge wouldn't I? Will get dr to look at it nxt time were there, don't think I need to tear up there now. Thanks for your help I am such a panicker and dp so calm.

Hope the appointment went OK.

Doctors never think you are crazy when you have a child you think might be sick. It's natural to worry, and there is something to be ruled out.

I trust it was. AFAIK yes, you would be able to feel the ridge if it was the condition I'm talking about. But I'm not an expert by any means.

Hi, I thought I would update this thread....we took my dd to the GP, and she said the ridge wasnt obvious to her but she could see it in the photos....she thinks its just the way her head is and will go over time, but to come back in 6 weeks. We are due to go back tomorrow (not the same dr, but our usual dr). I feel really worried, the ridge is still there, and you can only see it in some lights, its not overly obvious. If she thinks its normal, why come back in 6 weeks? If not normal, what do you think she'll do next?
