I think my 3yr old DD has threadworms and treated her for them earlier today, but she woke up around half and hour ago and is itching like crazy and crying with frustration. Does anyone know if there is anything I can put around the area to ease the itch?

I would be so grateful for any advice so that my tired little girl can get back to sleep.

Hi,
In my experience there is not much you can do until the medicine kicks in. You could try putting sudocrem on. The itching will eventually subside and she will be able to sleep. You could also maybe give her a bath, the heat might draw the female worm out?
Sorry I can be of no more help but I have loads of experience of thread worm (unfortunately) and she should be clear of them tomorrow night.
Good luck hope she is able to sleep soon.

The dreaded threadworms...we had those, not too pleasant. DS didn't seem bothered by the itch but the 24h after the treatment I found it was intensely itchy so I feel for your DD. I didn't take anything myself, but if my Ds had been complaining I would've tried a dose of Piriton for the itchies. Do you have Metanium, bit more barrier than Sudocream. Or calamine cream. Or maybe even Vaseline - might stop the worms from wriggling? The medication does work pretty quick though, so hopefully tonight will be the worst bit of it (aside from the copious cleaning regime!).

Thanks alphabill, Think I might try the bath if she doesn't calm down.

Roll on tomorrow night I say.:)

Hi pleasenap I hadn't thought about metanium I think i've still got some of that, will go and have a look. I've put sudocreme on already and its made no difference to the itching.

thankyou:)

Vaseline, I think, though the one time I thought dd2 might have had them it made no difference - neither did washing her bottom, or sudacreme. Calpol and piriton did, maybe because they knocked her out a little - along with sheer tiredness.

Should be far better tomorrow, good luck with the cleaning!
