How do you brush your baby's teeth?

HV has given us tiny toothbrush and toothpaste plus leaflet that says not to rinse but spit as means the fluride will keep working.

How do I get 8 month old to spit?! What does everyone else do?

Er at that age DS had four teeth. Didn't bother much with toothpaste - rubbed them clean with a muslin (dentist's advice). As he got more, I started smearing the toothbrush in a tiny bit of toothpaste and brushing - obviously no spitting from DS though!

Weleda do a specific baby toothpaste, not harmful if swallowed, this is what I use.

I was told by the dentist not to worry about spitting, you are supposed to use such a little amount it doesn't matter.

Yes ds only has two teeth so far! We have just been smearing the tiniest bit on the brush, just to get him used to the idea of tooth brushing as part of his routine.

Waiting to get our dentist appointment through so will check with her.
