DS was sent home sick today following a bit of a funny turn - sweating, shakiness and blurred vision. Meanwhile, he is complaining of a 'weird and yucky' feeling throat, specifically around his adam's apple. The throat thing has been going on for around three weeks now. He's been to the doctors with it, who diagnosed tonsilitis (though I was unconvinced as they didn't look swollen) and prescribed antibiotics. He finished the course without improvement.
I've just had a chat with him and he says he had another of these funny turns a couple of weeks ago and felt like his heart was 'really banging hard' ... I discussed with him whether it might be anxiety (have suffered from panic attacks myself so know how serious they can feel) but he says he doesn't feel anxious about anything, he doesn't seem to be having any problems at school, with friends or with GF ... generally, if he were any more laid back he'd fall over!
Anyway, we went googling
and found a lot of his symptoms seem to match hyperthyroidism, which is a bit worrying - he's also not been sleeping too well and sometimes complains of weak, achy muscles.
Is there anything simpler/less alarming that I might have overlooked? I'm taking him to the doctors tomorrow anyway but I always feel a bit fobbed off and hurried when we go so I'd like to go forearmed with a bit of MN wisdom.
