DS (4 yr old) he has had a bit of a cough and had a slight temperature at night for a past 2 nights 3 nights ago he said his throat felt sore too taday he went to school feeling fine no temp. just a little cough.

I have just picked him up and noticed he has a rash on this neck, chest, tummy and back not on his bottom or arms and legs. It is a fine red rash sort of like a heat rash. I am not sure whether to call the doctor or not as he is feeling fine other than the rash which itches.

What you you do? any ideas what it could be?

Could be scarlet fever. I'd pop him to the GP.

narmada · 21/03/2011 13:38

Sounds like strep throat with scarlet fever rash.

leothelioness · 21/03/2011 14:02

I have called the GP and am waiting for a call back.
I hope he does not have scarlet fever he has just come back from school, I will be mortified Blush if I sent him to school with scarlet fever thinking its just a bit of a scratchy throat.

You weren't to know. I hope he's OK.

leothelioness · 21/03/2011 14:07

ok I have just googled the symptoms of scarlet fever and he does not seem to have the symptoms. His fever was not high just 37.8 also have just had a ggod look at his throat it is a little red but no pus etc and he seems to be energetic and not feeling unwell other than the itching.

Don't worry. You can only be guided by your child - If you though he was well enough to go, and so did he, then he probably was. It could also just be a post-viral rash. My DD gets these all the time.

leothelioness · 21/03/2011 14:12

Hopefully that is all it is narmada I donot usually worry too much about little thing the DC pick up but I will feel better better once I know what it is.
Do they have to stay off school if they have a viral rash?

No I don't think so re staying off school. Don't worry - I find that they always do let you know one way or another if they're really ill!

Update.
Thanks everyone who posted. I have just spoken to the doctor and he thinks it is a post viral rash and nothing to worry about Smile DS is feeling well enough too and currently mopping the living room floor.
