Can it be bacterial sinusitis without fever?

DD was treated with antibiotics a few weeks ago after developing a nasty throat infection. During his weeks' course, he started drinking like a fish and what we had thought was a feeding aversion that had gone on for nearly a month, possibly a bit longer, seemed to disappear.

We noticed his face seemed less 'puffy' after the antibiotics and have therefore wondered whether he'd actually had a sinus infection all that time.
He's been off the antibiotics for a week now and his milk intake has been gradually dropping again, he's harder than ever to get to sleep and he's cranky. No fever though.

I am taking him back to the GP tomorrow, but I was wondering if he could have chronic sinusitis that didn't quite shift entirely with the last lot of antibiotics. He doesn't like pressure on his cheeks.

Oh, he also has fairly awful reflux, whihc is being treated (but that's why we originally thought feeding aversion....)

DS had chronic sinitus when he was 9. He never got a fever and it took an MRI scan to diagnose it. I took him to the doctors in june when he was having lots of headaches. I remembered the last june he was having a similar problem. I asked the doctor if it could be sinus problems and he didn't think so. Because he also was still having febrile convulsions , the gp referred him to peadiatrician. He had mri scan, eeg, eyetests and it turned out it was a sinus infection. It was december by then and they finally gave him antibiotics! It took two lots to shift it.

When he complains now I take him to the gp and I get the "I don't think it is" and have to remind them it took mri scan to diagnose it last time.

hanks bruffin, DS is only 5 months, but I will definitely ask about sinusitis at the GPs. Glad your DS got sorted in the end, but what a long time it took!

Of course, I meant thanks. Did your DS have nasal discharge? MY DS doesn',' just sounds like he has thick mucus lodged somewhere up his nose - you can hear it when he breathes.

That was part of the problem he didn't have nasal discharge when they looked up his nose. Apparently sinus problems are really hard to diagnose in children.
He did have bad breath and he was cranky and not himself for quite a while.
It was his right maxillery that was affected.

Thanks bruffin I have noticed a wierd breath smell on occasion from DS but I just put it down to reflux .
