11yr old son has pain in both sides of his body

He started with a niggly pain under his belly-button on Monday. Then he said it had "moved upwards"and gone to both sides-around the rib area.He is a very active lad and has been finding it hard to do anything physical for the past 2 days. This morning,I thought he had improved, but when he got to school he rang me and said he was in agony. The pain sometimes is more harsh on one side more than the other-no specific side though and this morning he said it's in both again.Could this be something more than just muscle pain?

It could be appendicitis

hi...even though it's on both sides?
Strangely enough,I was told he could have "rumbling" appendicitis a couple of years ago but we eventually put it down to some rigorous dancing he'd been doing for a show. One doctor has since told me that he doesn't believe in rumbling appendicitis anyway.I thought that was always specific to one side though?

It can be all over .I had it at that age and it only became one sided at teh very end before I had it out.Does he have any other symptoms? I was really sick with it

he was fine this morning. His usual boisterous self lol! However,I did start to feel guilty when he rang me from school as he NEVER EVER rings me-always lets his sister do it!He said as soon as he'd got 2/3 minutes down the road from home,it had started again and I could tell by his voice that he was in pain.I've told him to have a word with his teacher if he still feels unwell but I'm now beginning to think I shoudn't have let him go at all.

Sounds like appendicitis to me.

oh right Sad well I've just rang the school to have a word with him and get back to me.Starting to panic a bit now.(I knew that he'd been climbing and jumping over walls at the weekend and had told him it was obviously muscle pain or something...feel so guilty now.)

Well I wouldn't feel too bad about it, just get him to the doctors today.
