How many is normal?

My DS (5.5yo) seems to get colds every four to six weeks. It usually takes him a couple of weeks to fully get over it - a lingering cough is usually the last symptom to fully go.

In the summer he can go three months absolutely fine, but autumn, winter and spring he seems to get one cold after another.

He is a big, healthy boy in all other respects, he eats a good varied diet, takes a vitamin supplement every day, and is happy at school.

I guess my question is, how many colds per year is normal?

He is in year 1 at school and has been like this ever since he started in Reception a year and a half ago. I thought his immune system would be stronger by now?

Hi my Gp says its not the number of colds the baby gets but how he/she is able to fight them off. more the body's ability to deal with the cold that reflects the overall health of the child
