Conjunctivitis help please!

Hi there,

My son, 8 months, was given drops on Sunday for conjunctivitis and thankfully it appears as if there is not as much ooze this morning though his snuggle toy was covered in green stains. Been cleaning his eyes regularly.

However his eyelids and the area under his eyes have gone quite red and very dry, will this resolve after we stop using the drops or can I use something to ease the dryness? Just don't know what is suitable for the eye area.

Thank you!

It sounds like he may be allergic to the drops. I'd give your GP surgery a ring and ask them what you should do. You can't stop the drops now without replacing them with something else because the bacteria will still be present and will take over again very quickly.

You could try an emollient like Vaseline or E45 but don't put it on if you think it might go in his eyes. It could also be quite stingy (esp E45) on such a sensitive area.
