hi has anyone ever used reusable eye patches for their DC? DD has to wear an eye patch 6hrs a day under her glasses. have seen some on net that attach onto glasses while still blocking vision in 'good eye'. Also does 6hrs seem excessive to anyone else?

A mumsnetter (lucyKate) 'designed' a patch to go on her dd's glasses - she now has a blog with info on how to make here - looks quite simple to do and the result is fab!

My son had a patch for about 2 years for 4 ish hours a day.

It is hard - but they get used to having to do it. Smile

Things are a lot better now, but years ago it wasn't so. Some friends of ours' little boy was diagnosed with lazy eye and she had to take him to the hospital to have a patch fitted to his good eye. It was like strong Elastoplast which was stuck on semi permanently and she was told not to remove it for several weeks. I forget how long but it must have been awful 24/7

Naturally he and she was very distressed on the way home when she realised his lazy eye was so bad he was vitally blind and she had difficulty guiding him through doors up and down stairs and on to the bus.

Fortunately the treatment, terrible as it was, did work and had successful outcome. It is so good that this method today is more considerate and it should be easier for children to adapt to it.

Good luck.

Sorry, my post should have read 'virtually' - not 'vitally'!
