High red blood cell count in dd.

Hi All,

Bit of background: dd has had respiratory infection and on Tuesday dd was diagnosed with pneumonia. Whilst we were at the hospital dd had a blood test and they found that she had a high red blood cell count. They said that this was probably due to the infection but they have told us to do another blood test in a week. If the count is still high we will have to do further tests and see a specialist. What is this all about? WHat could it be if it is not the infection?

Thanks
