Question about Mebendazole (Threadworm Medicine)

dd has threadworms and Dr prescribed Mebendazole. The instruction was to take the 1st dose and then a 2nd 2 weeks later.

This is because it takes 2 wks for the eggs (the medicine only kills the adults) to mature.

Our 2nd dose was due today and since dd started itching yesterday and I could see a couple in her bottom area, I gave it to her.

My question is what stops us needing another dose 2 weeks from now? Has anyone experienced this med and how long does it actually take to get rid of the worms completely.

I should point out I'm doing all the other Hygiene things recommended.

Well it's possible the first lot didn't do the job and you need a third dose. I would call the GP tomorrow and check. Do keep up with the hygiene routine though, it's just as important as the drugs!

yes you can totally get rid of it with hygiene alone, as I had them from the kids while pregnant and so couldnt take any drugs at all. I got rid of them by taking at shower every morning and evening - I am sure this did the trick.

You can also buy tablets from chemist, without having to bother the gp.
