Groin strain in a 7 yr old?

DS2 came out of school today complaining of a pain which initially sounded like a bladder problem as it was so low. Further questioning and googling seems to suggest it might be a groin strain.

He said it started after he bent over to pick up a pencil which somebody kicked as he bent down so he had to stretch further and twist. I have googled groin strain and it seems to be related to activities more atheletic than bending over and also in adults.

Could he have a groin strain even though he is only 7? Does he need to see a doctor? What can I do about it? He has an ice pack at the moment which he says helps but is there anything else?

Thanks.

Keep an eye on things - make sure there's no swelling of the testicles or anything. Hope he's OK by now - Ibuprofen will reduce any inflammation.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't think about his testicles and I must admit I didn't like to prod around the area too much so didn't look too closely earlier. He seemed to have a slightly swollen area at the very top of his left thigh so hopefully it isn't anything more sinister.

He was still hobbling a bit at bedtime but I think he was angling for a day off school so I am a bit sceptical about how bad it really is. He is a little bit prone to being a drama queen but I don't think he made this up entirely as I didn't really know about it before googling so I doubt he did!

I hope a night's rest does the trick.
