9 month old - eczema or rash?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do I know if my baby (9 month old) has eczema or a rash?

It started about 10 da week ago. At first I noticed that his skin felt rough in places. Looked closely and saw small red pimply spots scattered around his body. Rang NHS direct who helped us rule out anything seriously urgent.

Now the small raised spots have pretty much gone, but some pinkish red rough patches remain. DS doesn't seem to be in the least bit worried by them as far as I can tell.

Is it likely to be just a rash or might it be eczema?

It might be eczema, my dd has it and it never bothered her, even though it looked painful! I started using Oilatum (can buy in Asda or get it on prescription) in the bath and Oilatum Cream afterwards. The patches have cleared up now. I still use the Oilatum Bath stuff and only occassionally have to use the cream afterwards. If you are concerned just pop along to baby clinic or your GP xxx

Thanks wigglemama

I took him to gp who said it might be eczema, or it may just go. We have lots of creams to treat in the meantime. The rash is back now though and he's got a temperature, so might be something else or may just be a co-incidence that all these things have come together. I'm supposed to be catching a urine sample now for testing, but that's turning out to be much harder than I thought
