chicken pox

DS2 is in the grip of a nasty dose of chicken pox. All the stuff I've read says that they get the temperature before the rash. We're on day 3 of the rash (started Monday) and still with a raised temperature. Has anyone else encountered this? Most others I know who've had it seem to have been done with the temperature this far in...

Ignore what anyone else says. How high is the temperature? Are you using calpol and wet flannels to keep it down? If it will not come down try phoning the GP for advice, similarly if he has trouble breathing etc.

My kids all became covered in spots before I knew anything was wrong, at the most they were a little whinny.
Do your best to keep the itchiness under control, I always swear by bicarbonate of soda baths. Dress him in light clothes, and just let him flop.

If you do get worried phone the GP.

Thanks! The temp seems to be like that of any other flu type thing, so mostly controllable with calpol, ibuprofen etc.

And exactly the same as you - he was a bit cranky in the days preceding but the first I noticed were spots down below when I changed his nappy! They're pretty bad down there actually, so no nappy and a bit of impromptu potty training seems to be occurring...

Thanks again! Thought we were the only ones out there to hit a temp at the same time as the spots.
