Do I Take DS Back to GP?

Hi,
DS is 17 weeks old and has had a cough/cold for the last 3 weeks! I'd been using a saline nose spray and given him calpol but it didn't do anything so I took him to the doctors last Monday and was told that his chest is clear and to carry on what I was doing. As there is a family history of asthma he also gave me a baby friendly inhaler to use too. I've been doing all this but its just not going away!

I'm guessing he's caught this because he's just started nursery and he's still his happy, bubbly self, until he starts coughing you wouldn't know he was ill. I don't know whether to take him back to the doctors because I know antibiotics don't work on colds so i'm not sure what they can do for him? Is it still worth going?
Thanks

unless he becomes lethargic, has breathing difficulties or develops a high temperature, home treatments are more appropriate... try steaming him, wet towel on the radiator at night, raise his pillow and plenty of fluids.

babies are less able to clear their passages so congestion and coughs tend to linger for longer.

If you are worried it will do no harm to take him back but there isn't a lot they can do for a cold. If he struggles to breathe at all or isn't feeding then they can help with that but otherwise its just a wait and see job.

Have you tried steam and tipping the head of his cot/moses basket to try to help him?

If he is fine most of the time I would try not to worry to much.

Second all the above. If it makes you feel better the coughing is clearing all the mucusy gunk from his upper airways so its a good thing, really, honest...
