Keratitis

Hello , My DD aged 9 has just been diagnosed with keratitis whilst at the opticians for a routine eye test. Over the past month or so she has had two episodes of what the GP said were viral conjunctivitis. Whilst at the opticians we were referred immediately to the opthalmology dept at our local hospital as an emergency, where the consultant confimed the diagnosis. We werent given any treatment but were just told to come back in if it re-occured. Can anyone offer any advice as to what the complications are and what to do if it comes back. Is this a serious condition ?- we were led to believe this by the emergency referral but my quick internet search hasnt been very helpful. Her eyes were very red bloodshot and sore. Im a bit anxious if it comes back. Thank you very much.

Have they tried to find the cause of the Keratitis? If not I would be asking some questions. They should've at least swabbed her eyes for infections? Has she not had anything prescribed? keratitis can cause scarring of the cornea. My DD2's right cornea is scarred, though through stem cell failure, not your DD's condition. You really can't be too careful when it comes to eyes, I would ask the hospital to explain it a little more and what to look out for in future. In my opinion, if her eyes become even slightly sore, or pink I'd take her to the nearest eye hospital.
