How long between infection and symptoms for a D&V bug

Friend brought 3yo round today. Her child played with mine for 1hr. Then she says that her child has diarhoea and vomited yesterday. The DCs had already shared some food and played with the same toys etc. I am so cross that she didn't warn me as I would have postponed. I know it is crap being stuck at home with this sort of thing but FFS - why spread it knowingly? I doubt her 3yo is very good at handwashing so I imagine there were germs everywhere!!

How long before we know if my DC (and me!) have this bug?

Up to 5 days.

Its not inevitable.

Fingers crossed x

sneezecakesmum · 19/02/2011 22:38

From experience average onset is 48 hours, but certainly can be longer depending on the bug.

IHeartKingThistle · 19/02/2011 22:44

People who do this drive me insane, it's so bloody inconsiderate.

Clean everything and then stop thinking about it, fingers crossed you'll both be fine Smile

Nippolopolis · 20/02/2011 10:56

The one we've just had was about 72hrs.

Hope you don't get it.

Am so angry with "friend" Angry

What sort of person brings what is blatantly active norovirus on a playdate to someone's house? ShockConfused WHY? DC suffering SO badly, sick around 20 times despite not eating or drinking anything but tiny drops of water.

WIBU to reconsider this "friendship"?

YWNBU!!!

fuziluv · 22/02/2011 12:34

How is your little one?

sneezecakesmum · 22/02/2011 22:34

I would personally go apeshit. Sorry - so annoyed on your behalf. A minimum of 48 hours after the LAST episode of D&/or V should be made before returning to polite society [scream emoticon] at some peoples stupidity!

My daughter was on a school residential trip, and someone who wasn't completely recovered from a vomiting bug came along. Several others who shared accomodation with her were ill during the week, which toatally spoiled the experience for them, as they couldn't participate in the activities. Parents weren't informed their children had been ill until they came back, which I can understand as they'd only worry. They are secondary school age.

Piggyleroux · 23/02/2011 07:44

24 hours in my case. Same scenario. Ywnbu to not speak to her again!

Piggyleroux · 23/02/2011 07:45

My ds also has croup now and we had to cancel our holiday. Fucking friends.

unpsychicsally · 23/02/2011 09:11

This makes me sooooooo ANGRY!!!!!!! I would be very very annoyed, selfish people inflicting unnecessary illness.

Piggleroux how is your ds with croup? Mine was awake in the night with a croup sounding cough, am taking him to docs this morning.
