Sorry for the graphic description and hope no-one is eating :). For the second time since Christmas my 4 month old has really, really smelly wind/poo, with white lumps in it - not normal for him. The last time he had it, it lasted upwards of a week and he was off his milk (formula), as he is now.

He isn't dehydrated and seems largely fine in himself - so I am not goimg to rush him to the GP- but I just wondered if anyone had experienced similar or got any ideas what's causing it. He's currently being moved over to Neocate on suspicion of having cow's milk protein intolerance but not sure it's that as his poo isn't usually so explosive or lumpy.

Hi Narmade,

I can't answer your question but I would advise asking the GP to send a stool sample to be analysed asap. My son had very smelly lumpy and alternatively runny pooh last year which continued on and off for weeks and it was only when a sympathetic gp suggested a stool sample that a proper diagnosis was found. Previous to that I was told it was just a virus or teething. So be persistent, insistent and polite but do go back to the gp if you are not getting to the bottom of it.

Thanks eclair69, out of interest would you mind asking what it turned out to be in your son's case? Tell me to get lost if you want, though.

Our son is really off his milk still - we never know with him though whether he actually has a bug or whether it's just reflux-related food aversion :(. I think I will take him to the GP anyway. Thanks for the advice.
