EBF baby not pooing

My 5month old DS who is ebf hasn't pooed for about 9 days. Spoke to a dr on the phone as we couldn't get an appointment. She said she could prescribe lactulose but i'm not very keen on giving him that. Just wondered if anyone else has had this experience. Thanks

is he uncomfortable with it? BF babies can go a while between poos without being constipated.

no he's not uncomfortable and his tummy feels soft. It justseems a long time and health visitor said see dr if he hasn't by today

My ds went 17 days once. He saw the pead in that time for something else and she was suprised but not concerned. It was impressive when it did come.

Thanks. Just don't want to givehim lactulose as i don't think he's actually constipated

If you are really worried ask the doc for a glycerine suppository - they take about 10 seconds to work and are a good alternative if you don't want to give him something orally. My DD has gone 15 days before they gave her the glycerine, it was also the first thing they tried before recommending lactulose.

bf babies can go a week or more without pooing. It is quite normal and nothing to worry about unless he is uncomfortable and straining. It just shows how perfect bm is as there is virtually no waste!

He's been this morning without any interference and it was as soft as it usually is. Glad I didn't give him anything. Thanks for your advice.
