DS now seems to have a cold. He is really snotty but it's all at the back of his nose and throat. I've got one of those nasal aspirators but it doesn't come out of his nose to the point where I can suck it out. He seems really distressed by it and I can hear it all in his throat when he's breathing. Is there anything I can do? At the moment he is managing to breastfeed but I'm keeping an eye on that.

I would pop along to your GP, my dd had a cold but it ended up being bronchiolitus and we were in hospital for 12 days.

You could give some calpol, nurses did that for dd.

Hope he gets better soon.

Do check with you GP as it can develop into bronchiolitus.

Try propping up the cot mattress or moses basket a little to keep his head a little higher, this will help to 'drain' the mucus. (we used a towel folded up underneath) I also put a little Vicks rub on a bip and attached it out of reach but near to his bed, just to try and clear things a little.

Hope he gets well soon.

As others say, go to doctors if worried, but you can also get a calpol nasal saline spray from the chemists which works a treat. We have put DD in her car seat for short periods at night if it has been really bad as the position helps her sleep(obviously there are guidelines about how long babies can stay in there).
