toddler with bad breath?

My DD (14 mo) frequently has bad breath. Not halitosis-bad, just mildly unpleasant. She brushes her teeth twice a day, but when I say brushing what I mean is she chews the toothbrush with gusto as I attempt to brush all SIX of her teeth. I can't really figure out how else to do it. Also I can't figure out why her breath smells when she has so few teeth.

Is there a better way to brush her teeth? Is the breath a symptom of something else or... am I being PFB? Grin

Hi kenobi I'm not sure if this helps but my ds gets bad breath when his had blocked sinuses. He wasn't always unwell with it so didn't think it was a problem. I took him to docs and he said it was quite normal to get a bad breath from that due to it being all bunged up and yucky. I would say maybe take her to get checked by health visitor just to put your mind at rest and to be sure. Wouldn't of thought it's her routine of brushing teeth thats a problem. But then i'm not a pro. Hope that helps Grin

gr8kids Oh - that does really help actually - I think you might have hit the jackpot! She is currently recovering from a cold (number nine in the last 4 months...)

She's off to see a ear, nose and throat specialist in two weeks so I'll talk to him about it.

Thank you!

My DD (3yrs) has same problem and has had since I can remember. Definitely related to her overall health rather than what's happening in her mouth. In fact I can tell if she's poorly by her breath before she shows other symptoms - she's asthmatic so this is actually quite useful as can be more prepared Smile

Your welcome just glad I could help. Good luck Smile

Thanks Pkam, that confirms gr8kids diagnosis! Wink

Interestingly, DH is asthmatic and I have a feeling the doc is worried DD might be too. Sad
