A bit sensitive but....it's about DS1's arse!

Right, now, DS1 summoned the courage tonight to ask me to look at something he was worried about.

Basically, it's his arse. Pretty much where the cheeks meet (I'm terribly sorry if this is TMI anyone, please feel free to leave), there's a pretty sore looking red mark on each cheek, linear in shape, following the curve.

I'm pretty certain it's chafing. He's not in the least bit fat, but he does do quite a bit of sport involving running around. He says it started to hurt the other day when he was playing rugby (he's saying this all with a very red face, despite a "Surprisingly enough, I've seen your arse and more before DS1." comment from me....wonder why!).

Problem is, he's flat out refusing to go see the GP about it. We tried telling him that a GP wouldn't bat an eyelid at having to have a look, but he's having none of it and got a bit upset. To be honest I don't know if the GP is necessary since it most likely is chafing.

Is there any anti-chafing cream you can buy over the counter? Maybe that or Vaseline perhaps?

I don't know if anyone has an experience in this haha!

Thanks anyway,

WD

How old is he? And could just be chafing, I suppose.

WingDad · 13/02/2011 04:18

He be 11.

I was just wondering really if it could be anything other than chafing to be honest. Unlikely, but you never really know!

Could be chafing, could be a bit of Candida - yeast thrives in areas that are damp and close together, such as bum cheeks in an active boy. He may very well have the older boy's equivalent of nappy rash.

I'd try hydrocortisone cream, if you can get it without a prescription, and some Canesten.

You might need a second look (how thrilled your son will be!) to see if the skin is just red but intact, or if there are blisters and raw areas. If the former, try what i suggested above. If the latter, I'd really recommend a trip to the GP. Sorry, WingBoy, I feel your pain, but messing about with baby powder or other potions on broken skin is just asking for trouble.

Thanks for the advice Jacks, really helpful.

I actually do feel his pain, I caught my dick in my flies when I was 12. It was excruciatingly painful, but what made it worse was everyone having to look...my carers, ambulance paramedics, triage nurses, doctors, more doctors. I wanted the ground to swallow me haha!

Thanks again.

You're welcome! :)
Update when/ if you find out what it is, please?

My dd is totally in love with this product!

She used to get very painful chafing when riding and this stuff made a huge difference.

WingDad · 13/02/2011 17:49

The skin isn't broken, just very red and sore-looking.

DW told him to put some Vaseline on it last night before he went to bed, and he's said it doesn't even hurt anymore. There's still visible marking and he says he can feel it every now and then but it's definitely healed over night.

Panic over now I think, DS1's arse is now better! Grin

There's an antibacterial powder you can buy, can't think of the name but it's for nappy rash, chaffing etc, DP has used it on occasion with chaffing issues.

pantaloons · 13/02/2011 17:58

Would sudocrem not do the trick? DD had a sore patch where some new knickers had rubbed her and it worked wonders.

onimolap · 13/02/2011 17:59

Keep an eye on it! Sorry - but if it shows any sign of becoming a lump, it could be an abscess and that needs a doctor's attention straight away.

Hope the chafing remedies work, though.

Cutacura mildly medicated talc really helps, its blue and white and you get it from most chemists- really helps my other half in the summer x
